Soccer

We started soccer last weekend!  Reese and Grant were on different teams.  Our friend Morgan also played, but was on a different team.  I guess we will see how they do this for next week.  Last week we showed up late.  I may ask for the kids to be on the same team, as Grant didn't want to participate after about 10 minutes.

Speaking and Learning

Grant has started Speech therapy for Articulation at Shiloh Elementary School.  His teacher is Mrs Liz and he likes her. He has been very shy still after two weeks of classes, he still won't initiate conversation with her.  But he is answering every question she asks and is doing better at some of his sounds.

The initial testing they did to identify his speech issue was a long two session test.  But Grant did wonderful at listening and answering her questions.  At the Evaluation, Mrs Liz said that he is a very very smart little boy.  Over all he was at a 4 1/2 years comprehension of language, and on one particular test; the understanding of vocabulary...he scored above the charts.  The average for his age group was something like between 50 and 100...and he scored a 140!  So he is definitely understanding everything, he is just having a hard time relaying his thoughts to us.  He is talking more and more every day.  I do understand about 80% of what he says, but I don't know  if others do.  He is asking questions and saying long phrases.

he is also singing a little bit,he will sing the alphabet songs and his favorite song is "stuck like glue"  he loves watching music videos and dancing.

Grant is really good at math.  He has started adding and subtracting. He is very quick to figure out the answer.

Reese is really talking a lot, and seems to have many many things to say.  She likes to help Grant with his homework from speech, but we have to try to get him to answer and not her.  She has had several really cute phrases and comments lately.  Some of my favorites are:  " Grant...I never knew you were so sneaky!", and "Dad, when mom's gone, we can get a cat...she is allergic".
Reese sometimes becomes the interpreter when we don't quite understand Grant, or if it takes me too long to figure out what he has said.  She has also started to tattle on her brother and shadow these days.

she is also singing a lot of songs, she loves Katy Perry's "Roar" and watching videos.   And can say the Pledge of Allegiance.  She also enjoys making up stories and songs.

Reese is also able to do some simple addition and subtraction, however she takes a little longer to get the right answer, but she still does very very well with it.

I swear sometimes she can read already!

They both enjoy hanging out in Daddy's office for Daddy's Dance off!  He plays lots of good music so they can dance around and use suckers as microphones to sing.   They enjoy songs like "Happy", "Timber", "Dark Horse"...and even some oldies like "can't touch this"!

At the end of May they will go for their Preschool Screening and we will see just how smart they are!

Bed Time Woes

Bedtime and naptime are the worst parts of our day at our house.  Grant is a little more willing to throw in the towel and get some zzzzz's....his sister however does not comply to this sleep thing.  We have been giving in and sleeping in her room until she falls asleep, however, I am trying to get out of that habit, because even then sometimes it s two or more hours before she will calm down.  Very frustrating as a mom who has to get up and go to work the next morning.  Soooo...I have been working on letting her be in her room and going to my own room.  The problem is, she won't stay in there for more than a few minutes.  So we go back and forth and back and forth.  This past weekend I put the gate on her door...SHE HATES IT!!!  And I feel like a horrible mother, because the crying and screaming about being locked in is so horrible.  This too is proving not to work well, however we will try for a little longer.  The other night, before the screaming and crying started, she was in her room pretty quiet for a while...I thought, yes, this could work!...Then I heard singing...yes singing...she was singing to me ---"mommy let me out, mommy let me out, mommy let me out..." She did this for about 5 minutes...it was so cute...and clever of her.  however, mommy did not let her out, and the screaming started.  And when I went in her room, she says, "Mommy, look, I cleaned!  I cleaned out my whole cabinet!  And I found my horsey jams!!! (the summer ones of course) I need to put them on, help me, help me!!"  So it was still two hours before bed again.  We will keep working on it...then we will start working on Grant and getting him to stay in his room all night...he usually ends up in our bed by 4am.  oh sleep, how I miss you!!!!!
